When we fail, Christ prevails.
We are freely forgiven,
and God remembers our sin
no more. However,
try as we might to forget,
our sins are ever before us.
In times of regret, it’s good
to know God lives with those
who remember and rejoice
because Christ died.
For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in a high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite.”
Isaiah 57:15 ESV
The span of a person’s life is as minutes gone by to God,
a few hours at most.
What is seventy or eighty years compared to eternity?
Even so, we matter to Him, every little detail matters.
David said: “Behold, you have made my days a few handbreadths, and my lifetime is as nothing before you. Surely all mankind stands as a mere breath!”
Psalm 39:5 ESV
Jesus said: “Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered.”
Luke 12:7 ESV
Just as a good parent keeps an eye on his children,
to provide for and protect, so God keeps an eye
on His children, for the same reasons.
Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear him,
on those who hope in his steadfast love,
that he may deliver their soul from death
and keep them alive in famine.
Psalm 33:18-19 ESV
“Some day you will read in the papers that D.L. Moody, of East Northfield, is dead. Don’t you believe a word of it! At that moment I shall be more alive than I am now. I shall have gone up higher, that is all–out of this old clay tenement into a house that is immortal; a body that death cannot touch, that sin cannot taint, a body fashioned like unto His glorious body. I was born of the flesh in 1837. I was born of the Spirit in 1856. That which is born of the flesh may die. That which is born of the spirit will live forever.”
D. L. Moody
From: The Life of D.L. Moody by His Son
If you could ask God for one thing…
One thing have I asked of the LORD,
that will I seek after:
that I may dwell in the house of the LORD
all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD
and to inquire in his temple.

Here’s why I don’t think the eclipse is a warning from God:
1. God ordained that men would be warned by His Word (see Psalm 19:7-11).
2. God ordained that men would be warned by the lives and testimony of His people (see Genesis 6:9, 7:1).
3. God ordained that the Holy Spirit would convince men of sin and righteousness and coming judgement (see John 16:8).
4. If a person isn’t affected by God’s Word or His people, a supernatural event won’t alarm him either (see Luke 16:19-31).
5. Warnings are unmistakable.
6. Warnings are unpredictable.
7. Warnings are specific.
So, go ahead, get the glasses and gather your friends. Consider God’s greatness and look! “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork” (Psalm 19:1 ESV).
You are too much for my mind to comprehend;
You are beyond my understanding.
Thoughts of You, at times, overwhelm me,
and I wonder–How can this be?
I pray that You would not allow me
to become doubtful, but, always and only,
amazed by You.
Thank You for Your Word.
In Christ I stand,
When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead.
But he laid his right hand on me, saying, “Fear not,
I am the first and the last, and the living one.
I died, and behold I am alive forevermore.”

Praise the Lord–
it suits you.

May God grant us grace
to see hidden beauty
as most desirable.
…but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart
with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit,
which in God’s sight is very precious.

Plunging headfirst into a situation we’d rather avoid
is an act of faith; it’s trusting God to work, in spite of our fears.
By faith, we depend on God’s ability, rather than our own.
Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses,
so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

But let all who take refuge in you rejoice;
let them ever sing for joy,

that those who love your name
may exult in you.
Psalm 5:11 ESV
Wait for the LORD; be strong,
and let your heart take courage;
wait for the LORD!
Psalm 27:14 ESV
It’s good to remember,
there is never a situation
where God is not in control.
God gave us the Psalms
to get us through those times–
those troubling times–
when it seems we have fallen
out of His hand.

Let there be joy.
Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love,
that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.

to supplement your faith with virtue.
